Africa is a continent, not a country, far less a city or a primal villiage that we, in the west, seem to enjoy referring to it as. Africa is far more diverse than can be summed up in one word - unless you're talking geography. Lumping all "Africans" together is almost as bad as lumping all white people together, the Germans, the Americans, the Russians, the Irish. Better yet, it's as bad as lumping all Asian people together. When does it ever make sense to refer to a Chinese and an Indian person in the same title? How similar are those two people groups? When we use the term Africa we are making its people invisible and invoking strong connotations of poverty and "otherness" that we claim to know and care much about but would prefer to keep at arms' length. Watch your language.
